On January 13, 2018 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was in Rwanda for an official visit, held telephone talks with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran at request. The two sides exchanged views mainly on the latest statement of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian Nuclear Issue published by the US.

Wang Yi expressed that the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear issue is an international agreement officially examined and approved by the United Nations Security Council. To continue safeguarding and implementing the JCPOA is not only the responsibility resting with all relevant parties, but also conforms to the common wish of the international community, which will contribute to safeguarding international non-proliferation regime, maintaining regional peace and stability, and the peaceful settlement of other hotspot issues in the world as well. At present, the implementation of the JCPOA has not derailed, but it will face some new complex factors. It is hoped that Iran will stay calm and continue fulfilling relevant obligations stipulated in the JCPOA well. China will maintain close coordination with all relevant parties concerned including Iran and the international community and continue playing a constructive role in well safeguarding and implementing this important agreement.

Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed agreement with and gratitude for above-mentioned remarks of Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
