Honorable Dr, Jane Ruth Aceng, Minister of Health,

Distinguished guests,ladies and gentlemen,

Good afternoon,

Today, we are here to handover the anti-malaria medicines to the government of Uganda. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, I would like to extend our appreciation to the Ministry of Health for all the effort and cooperation to make this happen.

In February this year, around 500,000 packs anddoses of anti-malaria medicines worthy of 1.1 million USD was delivered to Uganda.

This donation is a rapid response to the urgent request of the government of Uganda to address the rising cases of malaria patients last year. Ugandans are our good brothers, good partners and good comrades. We enjoy a long tradition of helping each other.

This donation is also an implementation of the Medical and Health Program among the “Nine Programs” initiated by President Xi Jinping at the opening ceremony of 8th FOCAC ministerial conference.

The cooperation in health sector is one of the most important areas of cooperationin our bilateral relation.Last year, we celebrated 60 years anniversary of dispatching Chinese medical teams to African and 40 years of anniversary in Uganda. Since 1983, China has dispatched 23 batches of medical teams to Uganda with 218 doctors. Since 2005, the Chinese medical teams have treated more than 150,000 local patients, performed more than 4,000 operations, rescued more than 600 critically ill patients, and treated more than 40,000 people with acupuncture.

China decides to renovate and expand China-Uganda Friendship hospital. In last May, the feasibility study was conducted by the Chinese expert team.

During the years of pandemic, China worked closely with Uganda to fight the pandemic by providing vaccines and materials in time.

ladies and gentlemen,

Health sector is also an area of great potentiality that we can cooperate more.

Both countries have long history of herbal plantation and herbal medicines. The two sides may explore joint research of herbs, develop and market herb medicines to combat viruses and achieve win-win cooperation.

Both sides may work together to develop the digitalization of  health infrastructure in Uganda. We shall support Uganda to establisha platform for connecting the data among the hospitals and achieve digitalization of health Information in Uganda.

China will continue to encourage companies to invest the health sector in Uganda.

I thank you all!
