2008-03-19 00:00

On March 14th, 2008, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda issued a press release, clearly and openly declaring the opposition of the Government of the Republic of Uganda to the so called referendum on "joining the United Nations under the name Taiwan" held in Taiwan on March 22nd, 2008.

The press release is quoted as follows:

"The Government of the Republic of Uganda is committed to the "ONE CHINA POLICY" and supports the peaceful re-unification of China aimed at safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People's Republic of China.

Mindful of the above position therefore, the Government of the Republic of Uganda opposes the up-coming March 22nd referendum in Taiwan on joining the United Nations under the name Taiwan."
